Avocado Hass

The avocado is the fruit of the avocado tree (Persea americana). There are three main varieties. The most popular and consumed variety is the Hass avocado, a small fruit with a thick, rather rigid, granular skin of brown to purplish color, when ripe. Its blond flesh is quite firm and well flavored.

The avocado originated in Mexico, where it was already consumed by the Mesoamericans 8,000 years ago. Imported to Europe by the Spanish in the 17th century, it took three hundred years for it to find its place in the world's gastronomy.
